The questions that define our lives
are dotted over with hows and whys
though not in the way you might expect:
the biggest are not the questions we most respect.
Though I will talk of God and death with you
And probe the recesses of your views,
I am more earnest in having you explain
Do you yank bandaids off to minimise pain?
Do you like coffee or milk or tea?
How did you like high school chemistry?
Do you think sushi is fine or vile?
Let me develop a clearer profile.
Would you ever get a ring through your lip?
What do you take on a long car trip?
We explore each other’s mind in careless natter,
Let talk swirl in eddies of chatter.
Stay up late with me and talk some more,
Allow our souls to play and explore,
I welcome and embrace you as open friend,
If you’ll talk with me until night’s end.
